Iceland Reveals plans for Söngvakeppnin 2017

Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has released more details about their national selection, which will begin on the 25th of February, and continue on the following two Saturday nights. Out of over 200 submitted entries, the broadcaster has reduced the number to twelve songs who will compete for the right to represent Iceland at Eurovision in Kyiv.

The twelve acts competing are:

  • Rúnar Eff – Mér við hlið / Make your way back home (Rúnar Eff)

  • Hildur –  Bammbaramm (Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir)

  • Aron Hannes – Nótt / Tonight (Sveinn Rúnar Sigurðsson / Ágúst Ibsen)

  • Linda Hartmanns – Ástfangin / Obvious Love (Linda Hartmanns / Erla Bolladóttir)

  • Júlí Heiðar Halldórsson & Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir – Heim til þín / Get Back Home (Júlí Heiðar Halldórsson & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson)

  • Erna Mist – Skuggamynd / I’ll be gone (Guðbjörg Magnúsdóttir / Erna Mist Pétursdóttir)

  • Svala Björgvinsdóttir – Ég veit það / Paper (Einar Egilsson, Svala Björgvinsdóttir, Lester Mendez, Lily Elise / Stefán Hilmarsson)

  • Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir – Treystu á mig / Trust in me (Iðunn Ásgeirsdóttir / Ragnheiður Bjarnadóttir)

  • Daði Freyr Pétursson – Hvað með það? / Is This Love? (Daði Freyr Pétursson)

  • Páll Rósinkranz & Kristina Bærendsen – Þú og ég / You and I (Mark Brink og Þórunn Erna Clausen)

  • Aron Brink – Þú hefur dáleitt mig / Hypnotised (Þórunn Erna Clausen, Michael James Down og Aron Brink)

  • Arnar Jónsson & Rakel Pálsdóttir – Til mín / Again (Hólmfríður Ósk Samúelsdóttir)

The songs will be performed in Icelandic in the semi-finals, with each semi-final featuring 6 of the 12 artists. The three songs that receive the highest amount of votes will continue on to the final. Icelandic and English versions of the songs are available online on the official website. In the final, the artists can choose which language they would like to perform in.

The first semi-final will be held on the 25th of February, the second semi-final on the 4th of March, and the final on the 11th of March.
