Each week, we’ve been creating specially curated playlists featuring some of our favourite songs from Eurovision and National final stars, new and old! In this week’s playlist, we’ve featured some of the new national final songs from various countries, as well as some past Eurovision songs we’ve been enjoying this week. We’ve also got some newer tracks from former Eurovision performers!
Listen to the playlist here:
We’re at the peak of national final season, so we’ve rummaged through to find some of our favourites, and also some of the fan favourites. Starting off with Melodifestivalen, this week we’ve featured Boris René with Her Kiss, another upbeat number from the returning star. We’ve also got Gravity by Jasmine Kara, which was picked to qualify, at least to Andra Chansen however didn’t quite get there.
From the Scandi neighbours, we’ve got the song Tonight by Aron Hannes, an upbeat pop number which will be performed in the upcoming Icelandic national final, Söngvakeppnin. From Finland, we’ve got Arrows, which was performed by Alva in UMK last month. It’s a cutesy song which has a chorus we just can’t get out of our heads. Also from UMK, although a previous year, we’ve got Hukka ja Mama with a newer track called Sun Pitäs Olla Mun, which has a funky electronic beat to back their unique harmonies. Lastly, moving over to Norway, where we’ve got former Melodi Grand Prix artist Adelén with a newer track called Spell On Me.
Heading over to the East, where we’ve been avidly following the Ukrainian national final. We’ve got a few favourites already, but in the last semi-final we were surprised by Melovin, who had a modern and chilled song that we just had to add! We’ve also got a track of Jamala’s most recent album. The song is called Thank You, which features Jamala’s unique vocal tone.
Our Best of the Bunch this week was focused on France, and one of our favourite acts in the past few years was Divine performed by Sébastien Tellier. We’ve also got the 2013 French representative in this week’s playlist, although not her Eurovision song (which we also loved). The song is called Je t’aimais, je t’aime et je t’aimerai. It’s a long name, but an emotional and beautiful track off her album Au Masculin.
Bits and bobs from other national finals this week include Brooke from Malta, who entered the national final this year with the song Unstoppable, which was unfortunately not the winner, but still a winner in our books. We’ve also got Verona, which is competing in Estonia as performed by Koit Toome and Laura. We’ve got Hey Mamma, which is our personal favourite from the Moldovan national final this year, and speaking of favourites, we have Salvador Sobral, who is competing in the Portuguese national final this year. Although we don’t have his Eurovision song on Spotify yet, we’ve featured one of his previous songs called Nem Eu, and the delicateness of his music and voice is something that we really need to hear more of in the future!
We’ve got Minus One making their weekly playlist debut this week with a track off their new EP called the Bologna Session. The track is called Cold, and features the signature rock sound that we love from the Cypriot band. Hungarian Eurovision act from 2013 ByeAlex also made the playlist with a song called Még Mindig, which had the remix treatment from the same artist that worked on Totova’s 2017 A Dal bid. Germany’s Mia Diekow also made the playlist with one of our favourite songs called Black Beauty, which is super catchy, and guaranteed to get stuck in your head!
Eurovision tracks featured this week are NAVI with their 2017 entry for Belarus, and from previous editions, we’ve got Montenegro’s Igranka, still underrated in our eyes! We’ve also got the 2016 entry from Azerbaijan, Samra with the song Miracle.
Plenty of new music to listen to this week!
