Eurovision Archive: 1962

Background

The Eurovision Song Contest of 1962 was the 7th annual contest, and was held on the 18th of March in 1962. The host country was Luxembourg, and the venue was the Villa Louvigny. The presenter of the show was Mireille Delannoy, and the conductor for the orchestra of the show was Jean Roderès.

During the show, after the French act has performed, there was a brief power failure which sent the screens into darkness. This happened also during the Dutch performance, which in turn affected their scores during the voting. The song from the Netherlands, despite not ending in a high position at Eurovision, became popular after the contest.

The 1962 contest saw four artists return this year, three of which participated in the 1960 contest – Camillo Felgen for Luxembourg, François Deguelt for Monaco and Fud Leclerc, who was participating for the fourth time in the contest’s history. Jean Phillippe was also returning, having represented France in 1959, however returning for Switzerland.
