JESC: Albania Confirms Their Participation With A New Selection Process

It was 2012 when Albania decided to first debut in Junior Eurovision, and despite their mixed results over their three participations (2012, 2015 and 2016), Albania is back for another shot at the title in 2017. Albanian Broadcaster RTSH has now confirmed their participation, as well as announcing the new format for their selection process.

Last year, Albania’s representative Klesta Qehaja was chosen through a format similar to how the adult Albanian representatives are chosen for Eurovision, Festivali i Këngës për Fëmijë – the traditional song contest, but for children. This year, the nation will be sticking with a national selection, but under the new name of Junior Fest.

The details on the new ‘formula’ of the selection process is still unsure, however what we do know is that it will take place in the Albanian capital of Tirana on the 23rd of September at the Palace of Congresses. It is said that 16 artists will take to the stage, with these artists chosen by a professional jury. How the winner will be chosen is still unknown at this point.

Artists hoping to be a part of the competition can submit songs to RTSH until September 1. The songs should be between 2:45 and 3 minutes long, and of course the artists must create something original in music and lyrics, and it must be performed live at the final – all the typical Eurovision rules!
